It was fun to watch a Super Bowl played in the rain with four turnovers in the first quarter alone. Nice to see get-dirty style games in the biggest show, rather than a dome atmosphere. Rex Grossman was as bad as we thought he'd be, or maybe even worse. He hung those interceptions in the air so much it seemed like he was playing playground ball with fifth graders. I didn't care too much about the outcome, but at least we can stop hearing about how "Peyton Manning has to get that monkey off his back" and "is the best or isn't he" anymore.
ESPN has
a recap of the commercials here. My favorites from the night were:
- Emerald Nuts - Robert Goulet
- Chevy - Car Wash (which was written and produced by a college freshman in a contest sponsored by Chevy)
- Garmin - Maposaurus
- All of the CareerBuilder "get through the work week" spots
- FedEx Ground - "Well said, Mr. Turkeyneck"
- ETrade - Bank Robbery or 1-Finger, but not both. I can't decide.
- Blockbuster - Drag Mouse
- Doritos - Strong and Smooth (also a contest winner)
- Budweiser - "Fist bump is out," Rock-Paper-Scissors, and Crab Beach
Yeah, so that's a lot to have as favorites. None of them was really amazing. My least favorite were:
- GoDaddy - The "everybody wants to work in marketing" line is funny, but the girl is a butterface
- All of the Coke commercials - meh
- Chevy Singers - how long was it? That's a waste of $5.2 million
- The "Pride" movie trailer - an inspirational race sports story about the swim team?
- Snickers Guy Kiss - it could've been so much funnier
- Doritos Frisky Cashier - not funny
- Budweiser Jay-Z and Don Shula
Meh.
